Altius engages Company Watch to monitor supply chain financial health

Supply chain compliance specialist Altius Vendor Assessment has partnered with financial risk management experts Company Watch to provide its clients with robust and reliable monitoring systems. This will enable them to effectively track and predict the financial health of suppliers.

Company Watch has developed specialised mathematical models that differentiate financial winners from losers, through its unique H-Score® measure, and has succeeded in predicting the vast majority of company failures in advance over the past 15 years.

The system is integrated into the Altius In-Touch portal, used by clients to manage and select suppliers.  This enables clients to gain excellent insights into the financial status of current and potential contractors.

Gary Plant, Managing Director of Altius Vendor Assessment said: "Active financial risk management is  a vital component of successful and proactive supplier management. Company Watch provides the very best intelligence and tools for monitoring and predicting financial weakness and strength. This provides clients with valuable foresight and protection and an ability to select suppliers with their eyes fully open."

New online service reduces cost and burden for Clients and CDM Coordinators

A new online service has been launched to reduce cost and make life easier for clients and CDM Coordinators, while providing additional safeguards.

The Collaborative Construction Compliance service provides a combined online system to manage CDM and asbestos management and compliance; contractor assessment and accreditation; waste planning and record documentation. It is designed to cut costs and reduce the burden placed on clients and CDM Coordinators.

The new service launches as new statistics are released showing that 6.71% of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecutions were made under CDM regulations in 2011, up from 5.75% in 2010. The average fine for flouting CDM regulations was £7,219.00 in 2011, up from £4,300.00 in 2010.

The holistic CDM compliance solution has been developed in response to demand from construction clients who wish to focus on strategic CDM planning and management rather than being 'lost' in paperwork that can detract from performance.

"Clients and CDM Coordinators have a difficult role to perform in ensuring best practice in health and safety through the lifecycle of construction and maintenance projects and in liaising between all parties involved," said David Marlow, of Collaborative Construction Compliance.

He continued: "For some, this is an additional job role they undertake, so we believe there is a requirement for an online portal that captures all the data and management and reporting systems they require to fulfil their professional responsibilities without drowning under a mountain of paperwork. The prompts and procedures provided by the system reduce human error, providing an important safeguard in the critical task of robust CDM management."

Collaborative Construction Compliance brings together specialist services provided by health and safety consultancy Ai Solutions, Altius Vendor Assessment, Waste Plan Solutions and Watson & Sole through one portal, which has a CDM compliance management software system as its backbone.

Ai Solutions' ToolKit CS™ CDM management software provides an integrated knowledge base, document templates and competency management capabilities to provide a fully audited solution for all projects, properties and structures.

In addition, CDM Coordinators can utilise the portal to verify and assure compliance of contractors using the Altius Vendor Assessment system, which is a free service to clients and main contractors. This is a best-practice assessment process that is evidence based and includes Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) CDM 2007 accreditation.

Other elements within the CCC service include the WastePlan tool from Waste Plan Solutions which supports clients through all the steps of developing and executing a best practice, Environment Agency compliant Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP).

In addition, Clients, CDM Coordinators, Facilities managers etc. can gain web access to the INTELI-SCAN system, from Watson & Sole. This provides an online building library, where documents can be stored, retrieved through a fully indexed search for live reporting, and easily updated.

Collaborative Working Saves Money

In this current climate it's all about saving money, cutting costs, but still providing a high level of service.

So how can we do that? A great way is by working together.  Aristotle once said"The whole is more than the sum of its parts" and that is exactly what collaboration is all about.

Collaboration is nothing new, but it has never been applied effectively within CDMand Asbestos management. Both of these areas are a result of legislation and they tie-in to other legislation such as waste managementcompetence management, fire, risk assessments and record documentation to name but a few. It's a tough call as a Client to administer to all the requirements under the Law, as well as doing it on a shoe-string budget.

So how can we achieve all this? It's simple; start networking, work together; form collaborative working partnerships, connect with people, join forces and find the 'synergy' between you. This can be role driven, service driven or people driven - it does not matter. Those involved then need to form a relationship and formalise boundaries. After that, all you do is 'do what you are good at in particular' and let the others do what they do best. The end result will be a service or a product that will satisfy the specific needs of all parties; The Client adheres to legislation and the various Provider(s) can supply the right goods or services.

In our case at Ai Solutions, we provide the ToolKit CS™ software and have done so for over 16 years. We are good at what we do, as our customers will testify. We decided in 2011 to expand our horizons but, like a lot of organisations at the moment, it's difficult to justify a large spend on new innovative software, or to employ lots of new staff in the current financial climate.  In the world of CDM, collaborative working is quite 'old hat' and it is expected that those involved in a CDM project 'work together'. We have taken this one step further by joining forces with other providers of software solutions to provide our clients with a 'complete solution'. Our partners, Waste Plan Solutions, Altius Vendor Assessment and Watson & Sole believe that the key is 'sharing of information' between our products saving time, effort and cutting costs.

We consider our collaboration to be unique in the construction industry. With our 'holistic approach' the Client can cover many of the requirements under law as well as saving time, effort and money by centralising the process and providing the mechanism for sharing of information. It sounds fantastic, but it works!
